Updates & Charity Event

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to let you all know what a wonderful job you are all doing! Our team is slowly but surely expanding a little everyday!

Keep sending in your August "Meet & Greet" item and convo to me with something about yourself and why you chose that item! So far we have gotten many entries and it has been great getting to know each and everyone of you!

From the surveys it is quite clear that everyone would like a newsletter! If you haven't taken the survey yet just click on the link to the right. If anyone would like to have patterns, techniques etc published in the monthly newsletter please feel free to convo me!

Also from the surveys taken many would be interested in doing a team charity event! This is one thing that I am very excited about! Most would like to be involved in a charity event that item made go to children or babies. I've been doing some research and there are SOOO many charities to choose from which is why I have come to you all. I would like to do something that will be a big help to others in the winter months and during the holidays. If possible, it would be nice to choose a charity that accepts all types of crocheted items: hats, blankets, mittens, dolls, etc. This way everyone in the team has a chance to participate and help in their own way by making something that is them.

Please leave a comment on this blog or send me a convo with what you would suggest. As part of being on this team I really would like to see this be a great team effort!

Thanks a bunch!

  1. Giving to charity is something that we all need to consider doing as often as possible. If we can come up with some sort of team method of doing so, even better!

  2. I included this link in my survey but, just in case here it is again.http://www.pinkslipperproject.org/

This is the pink slipper project. A charity that collects slippers of all colors, crochet, knit, sewn and donates them to women and children in homeless shelters.

  3. Here's my contribution to the brainstorming:

It might be fun to choose say organization per quarter or something along those lines. Maybe we could open it up for nominations, and team members could submit their suggestions.

If we got more than four nominations (or three or five or whatever) a team committee could narrow it down to four and then we could have a team vote to get down to the one charity that we'd help. Then, for three months, team members would send items as their time and means allowed to that particular charity.

When that quarter was over, we could go through the "choosing" process again, OR we could just move down and help the charity that got the second most votes, etc.

BTW--since we're a new team and are still getting to know each other, I want to make it clear that this is just an idea I have, and that I won't feel badly or get upset if we don't end up using it or going this way. I'm fairly easy going about things like this.

  4. Typos:

"It might be fun to choose one organization per quarter or something along those lines. "

    instead of:

"It might be fun to choose say organization per quarter or something along those lines. "

And with that, I'm going to bed! It's obviously too late for me to be posting tonight!

  5. That's not a bad idea. I do want everyone to be able to go at they're own pace but use to constantly be involved in something to help others.

  6. I am not a member but was just looking through the teams. I have don't all kinds of charity sewing and crocheting. Lots of people make things for babies and as the age goes up the donations get smaller and smaller....everyone loves babies but what about the older children and people in nursing homes.
The last few years my donations have been almost entirely to cancer hospitals, doctors, etc. of stoma covers for patients who have had their larynx removed and breathe through an opening (stoma) in there neck.
But the reason I am writing is awhile back I came across a charity that I think it really great and a fun project. You make crocheted rectangles. I think they were 7" by 9" but am not real sure about that. Any color so you could use up your extra yarn. Then you would send them to a place that would put them together. Each block would be from a different person, trying to get a person from each state. Then the blanket would be given to a wounded serviceman or woman in the hospital...reminding the person that so many people and all the states are thankful for what they have done to keep us free.
Just a suggestion but it is easy to do since you can carry a small amount of yarn anywhere you go.
