This book is very unique and interesting. I would have never thought of using the art of crochet in graffiti form, but just as Graffiti is an art so too is Crochet. I love the humor in this instructional book. The photos give good illustrations of safe crochet graffiti. I love that this book explains what graffiti is and how crochet and knit can be used to speak it's language. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to explore different types of crochet or knitting.

     This website is a wonderful web resource for crocheters and knitters alike. Not only does this website allow you to post projects you are currently working on but it also gives you the opportunity to post and sell your unique crochet designs. Even if you don't design crochet patterns this website is still useful as it has a huge collection of free patterns. There are also patterns available to purchase. This website offers tips and tricks of the art of Crochet and Knitting, forums for chatting up the crafts with fellow crafters, and articles to read about the latest Ravelry.com news.

     My favorite feature of this website is the yarn shops. There are members of Ravelry that spin and dye their own yarn as well as members just trying to trade or sell their unwanted stash of mixed brand yarns. There are groups/teams on the website as well as inbox features for communicating with one another. If you meet a friend within their community you have the option to had them to your 'friends' folder within your profile. What a great resource!

This book would be good for anyone that enjoys crocheting with tiny fibers. I've never tried to crochet with any yarns smaller than baby yarn and I've certainly never tried to make crochet jewelry. This book is great for anyone that enjoys making hats. I love that in the beginning there is a two page spread of thumbnail size photos of all the hats the book contains patterns for. Each photo is assigned with a page number making it super easy to find the pattern you want quickly. The layout of the book is very friendly and easy to read. The patterns are well described and written in detail. There are abbreviations charts for both Knit and Crochet as well as size charts for hooks and needles; both US and Metric. I also love the page of yarn suppliers provided towards the end of the book; very helpful ;-)

I was glad that I only rented this book from the library. Had I paid money for it I would have been disappointed. That's not to say you will, however. I loved the weirdness of the patterns in this book. My favorites were the fortune cookies and egg shaped potholder. These patterns are definitely one of a kind though. I guess I should have been warned with the title, lol. KOOKY!

I love the layout of the book, the font and spacing of each pattern, and that a photo sample is included with every pattern. You're sure to find a one of a king creature to make in this book. The size of the finished product is great for desk top accessories or paper weights. All in all, I rate this book...

Sure, it's pretty easy to find a book with girly items in it to crochet but how often do you find a pattern for a manly hat or scarf? I like sweater patterns most from this book and there are a lot of them. There are photos to go along with each pattern and the directions are well written. Perhaps my favorite part of this book, is the comical historical feature in the beginning about men in knits. Ultimately, this book is unique.

This book is perhaps one of my favorite crochet reference books. Not only does it give great detailed instructions for stitches but it also provides photographs. I love that this book is complete with information pertaining to yarn origins, hook sizes, gauge mathematics, and even some patterns.

Some types of crochet, such as Thread, Tunisian, Entrelac, and bead are covered in this book. There is also a brief history of crochet, glossary of crochet terms, and even a resources page. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a "answer all" reference guide to crochet.

Converting Knit patterns to Crochet patterns:

I know it's been a while since I've blogged some tips and tricks of the crochet trade, but I've been rather swamped with back to school assignments, ahh! After reading the team threads I understand some of you are interested in learning to convert knit patterns to crochet patterns. Well, as promised, here are some resources to help you along the converting process:

Books:

"From Knit to Crochet: how to get the look and feel of knitting with crochet"

By: Bobbie Matela

"From Needles to Hooks: Complete guide to converting knit patterns to crochet"

By: Donna Scott

ISBN: 978-1573671248

Both of these books are available online through Amazon.com for a reasonable price. However, if you just want to try converting your patterns and don't want to make an investment in the process try looking for these books at your local library. If you're not familiar with searching for books through your library ask your librarian for assistance. Most librarians are trained in reference and are great human Google search engines.

If your library doesn't have the books, but you still don't want to commit to buying the books until you've tried converting a few patterns try searching for the books at paperbackswap.com. It's a website where people literally swap books for just the cost of shipping and it's free (no membership fees or book fees)!

There are also online resources available like YouTube.com videos that will guide you through the converting process. Keep in mind when converting from knit to crochet you will need approximately 1/3 more yarn for the finished crochet product than what's required for the finished knit product. Crochet generally takes more yarn.

As always, don't forget about your fellow team members. You can always use the team's threads to ask for assistance in anything craft/knit/ or crochet related.

Handy tools to help Crocheters

Greetings and Salutations fellow Crocheters!

I have found some useful tools and supplies that might help us all with our crochet projects. You can find most of these are your local craft store or online. I will name the item and then give a brief explanation of what the tool is and how it can be used to help with crochet projects. Lets get started making crochet easier and faster!

Crochet Hook - the basic tool required to make beautiful and unique crochet items. Hooks are available in plastic, aluminum, steel, wood, and bamboo. There are many different types such as Japanese, vintage, double-ended, and novelty. While each hook has it's benefits only you, the creator, will know by trail and error which is most comfortable to use. So feel free to try them all! Challenge: Try crocheting with the opposite hand that you write with. Just because you write right handed or left doesn't mean you might crochet with that same hand. You won't know until you try :-)

Yarn Cutter - these are relatively new and great for the traveling crocheter. They contain a sharp metal blade encased within an ornamental casing that can be used to slice through yarn.

Hook Gauge - this is a holey gadget that will help you find the right size of hook for your project. These are great if you follow patterns or use yarn according to the labeling gauge suggested. Always be sure not to force the hook through the hole. Try to find one of these that have a ruler on the side to help measure your yarn gauge or tension.

Stitch Markers - these are great for keeping your place. They can be made of plastic, metal, acrylic, or other materials. Mostly they are bright colors or attractive to the eye. Most commonly these are used to mark the beginning or end of a row/round. They are also helpful in marking where to increase or decrease your stitches.

Pins -long fabric pins are great to use for blocking your crochet projects. They are also easier to see than shorter pins.

Tape Measure - try using a dress maker type of tape measure for your crochet projects. They should be strong but flexible for easy use and storage. To be sure to have a universal grasp on measurements in your projects try to get one with both inches and centimeters.

Small Sharp Scissors - needlework or embroidery scissors are great for cutting yarn. For easier storage you might want to invest in the folding type that retract. Keep in mind those types often need sharpened more frequently. Tip: if you're always loosing your scissors like me try making a pretty beaded fob to keep them around your neck or tied to your project bag/box.

Row Counter -these are great for long projects. They help with complicated patterns too like working in the round or numerous rows for a scarf or afghan.

Bobbins - wooded bobbins can be used to wrap up scraps of yarn to be used later, or for color work for intarsia or jacquard.

Yarn Needle - these make weaving in ends a breeze. You can also use these to stitch crochet pieces together in case the seem you are looking for isn't crochet.

Pencils, Erasers, paper, calculator - These are essential tools for anyone that designs crochet projects. Even if you don't design items or write your own patterns these tools will still be useful I'm sure. You never know when you'll be working on a project and come up with a great idea for another one. Keeping these tools in your crochet bag will make it easier to remember your idea by jotting it down.

Rolls and cases - it's always a good idea to keep your crochet hooks, needles, and even knitting needles clean and safely stored until you're ready to use them again. You could use a small cosmetics bag, or any other portable pouch to hold them in. You could always make one for yourself too. Just be sure that if you crochet it to line it with some fabric so your hooks won't slip out through your stitches.

The next team charity project is to crochet small Christmas ornaments for soldiers. Basically what we're asking you to consider doing is being creative and making small Christmas ornaments that I soldier could carry easily in their pocket. Serving our country, or any for that matter, is no easy task. I'm sure we all know someone who has served and made great sacrifices to do so. The ornaments donated will bring a little joy and appreciation to a hard working soldier's day. A reminder of home might just be what puts a smile on some soldier's face when they see your uniquely, homemade gift.

Not sure what to make? No worries, some of our team members have very generously shared some patterns for small ornaments already on the team's thread. Etsy Search Changes: Item Tagging

Greetings Team Members!

Most of you have probably experienced a drop in shop views and listing views recently. Don't fret, there's a reason. Your tags, item descriptions, titles, categories, and materials might need to be updated or even altered to work properly in accordance with the new rules and regulations on Etsy as they have made a change with their search engine. We all know how great of a community Etsy is for crafters like us. So like any great organization they are constantly working to provide the best and most optimum experience for their sellers and buyers alike.

Let me start by explaining what a 'tag' is exactly and how it effects a search on Etsy. "Tags" are keywords used to describe the item that you're listing on Etsy. They help shoppers find what it is they're looking for. For each listing you are allotted a maximum of 13 tags to use for your item. You're not required to use all 13 tags ,but the more you use to describe the item the easier it'll be to find it.

Now besides using the tags to help your buyers find your products you can also use subcategories, a title, attributes, and even the materials you have used to make your item. So lets say you've just finished making a beautiful crochet scarf that you'd like to list before school starts. Being that the scarf is designed with fall colors you can tag it with those color choices. You could even put fall scarf as a tag. Lets say you wanted to list the remaining balls of yarn you have from making the scarf. You decide to make a listing for all of the colors of yarn as a group. Now you could still tag the yarn for the colors they are but you can't tag them for 'fall scarf'. This is one of the changes Etsy has made for their tagging rules. You are no longer allowed to use tags for describing what the item "could" be. Your tags must describe the item as it is.

So now you're probably wondering, okay how does that effect how my item is viewed? Well, Etsy changed their search so that when someone looks for a particular item they no longer will get results as the items were listed (most recent listed first). Now when you do a search the words you type in the search box are what will bring up the results (relevancy). Lets take the fall scarf scenario...you're a buyer who wants to get your daughter/son a scarf to wear this fall to school. You've searched for "scarf" but couldn't find one you liked with autumn colors. If you search "fall scarf" your results will differ in that you'll only get results that have those terms in their title, category, or tags. Get it? The results cater to both the seller and the buyer because it works both ways only in reverse accordingly.

I hope this helps explain things. I know it's time consuming to change all of your store listings but it might just be worth the time and effort if it brings you more views. Greetings team members!

I wanted to dedicate this Monday's blog entry to an organization you may not know about. Being that we are all talented crocheters I felt I should let you know about the Crochet Guild of America. If you click on their name you will be redirected to their website; more specifically, you will be redirected to their benefits page where they've listed reasons for joining the Crochet Guild of America.

This not-for-profit organization is one of those resources I mentioned in this past weekend's preview; "knowing your resources". Even if you don't join the guild you can still find very useful information from their web directory. You might even enjoy regulatory reading their blog. Some of the benefits to joining, however, include free patterns, opportunities to join other crocheters in fellowship at conferences, and a newsletter.

One of the things that I personally love about them is that they cater to both right and left handed crocheters. They provide educational tools as well that could be beneficial to crocheters of any skill level. Another nice option they provide is the opportunity to submit your creation patterns to get published via CGOA. This might be the route for you if you don't feel like designing a whole crochet line for a book.*They also accepted donations of patterns.*

To sum it all up, they are a national group of crocheters with a lot of information, resources, and educational tools available.

Weekend Preview: Tips and Tricks

Happy Weekend to you all!

If you have any crochet projects going on right now here are some tips and tricks of the crochet trade that might be useful:

1) Always have a tablet (paper) and a writing utensil handy when you are crafting. You never know when you might need to jot down some crafter's notes about the project your working on. Maybe you'll get inspired for a pattern and need to write it down before it escapes your mind.

2) Have some stitch markers handy. Stitch markers are a great tool to use for Crocheting. There are several types available out there on Etsy and other websites. Whether it's a locking marker or an easy to remove slip marker they'll come in handy for keeping your place or counting rows.

3) Use the team thread wisely. Sure, talking in the team thread is great for sharing with other members your creations or even just small chat about what's going on in your life. BUT, there are very talented crocheters on our team that are of all skill levels. Remember this the next time you come across a project snag because the threads can act like an "ask the expert" tool. You never know if someone else has come across a similar issue and your questions in the threads can be most benefical to you as well as other members.

4.) Take a breather. Most people that are passionate about anything have experienced the occasional burn out. If you're like me and always have projects you are working on then sometimes it can get a little overwhelming to remember ideas that come to mind while working. (this is where that pen and paper would come in handy too) If you feel yourself tensing up while crocheting set your yarn and hook down for a minute. Prop your legs up and close your eyes. Just take some deep breaths. If that's not enough then just walk away for a few minutes and come back to your projects later.

5.) Know what tools are availble to make crocheting easier. There are so many tools and materials out there that are useful for people that crochet. Be that crochet pattern books, different styles of hooks to prevent hand pain, stitch markers, magnifying glasses to help with intricate work, or yarn bowls there's always something out there that could help make your creations easier and faster. Maybe you need a yarn roller so you don't have to spend a lot of time rolling new skeins of yarn into balls for easier use. The possibilities are endless really.

Ms. Charlotte is the proud owner and creator of SalutationsCrochet. She is a right handed crocheter that has been crocheting for several years. Charlotte enjoys crocheting, "During my daughter's nap-time, if I can manage it, I just LOVE to sit in front of the computer and crochet while watching something on Hulu. Sometimes I have to do mom stuff or housework stuff or other stuff during this time, but if I could swing it, I'd spend that time crocheting every day."
This is how she got started...

"I started crocheting when I was ten years old. That was when three of my best friends learned to knit as part of a learning activity in their religious youth group. I was jealous. I had my own religious youth group, and I asked my leader if she would teach me how to knit, but she didn't know how. She did know how to do plastic canvas stitching, and so she taught me that instead. I enjoyed it, and made tissue box covers for my mother and both my grandmothers. I'm grateful now that the leader took the time to teach me, and for the time that we spent together, working on this project, but at the time, I really just wanted to learn to knit.

My mom, seeing my sadness offered to teach me to crochet (her mother had taught her when she was around my age). I was thrilled. She gave me some different options as to what I might make, and I chose to make a poncho. It took me four years to finish that particular poncho, but it started me on what I think will turn out to be a life-long love."

Out of all of the crochet stitches, the trinity stitch is her favorite because...

"It takes a bit longer to do, but it provides a texture that really appeals to me."

"If I felt flush enough, I'd use all the spendy stuff, wool blends especially. For now though, I like Caron Simply Soft, any of the cotton worsted weight varieties, and Lion Brand Homespun. I like the aluminum just fine. I have about 5 in size G & H ('cuz I'm always losing them) and one or two in most of the other sizes from F through N)"

What better way to start our team member blog features then with our founder and captain? I've taken some time to interview Melissa and here is what she has to say...

Melissa is a right handed crocheter that has been crocheting since 2006 (5 years).
"In the fall of 2006 I was a sophomore in college and my room mate was always crocheting and making hats so I was determined to learn. When I first began my stitches were too tight. I started off with scarfs since chains were easier. Then my friend Davy taught me how to do a increase stitch in order to make the hats round. After that I took off making anything that I could picture at the moment."

Her favorite crochet stitches are the basics and she enjoys working mostly with Fun Fur or fuzzy types of yarns.
"I love to make my fuzzy hats! I wish I lived somewhere other than Florida so I could wear them around! Not only are they warm but they certainly make a fashion statement! "

When asked if she has even created or designed a crochet pattern she responded with:

"Nope! I don't do patterns. I do not use patterns for any of my designs. The process involves picturing it in my head and then creating it. That is why I am so proud of my dolls! :D "

There really isn't any particular crochet technique that she's interested in learning right now but as for where she stands on types of crochet hooks...

"I started off with aluminum and I still use them from time to time. Bamboo are my all time favorite! "

Now when you put all that together you get one creative gal that...

"...crochets for all ages! I always do it for pure fun. When I first learned, I would crochet items for my baby brother. Of course he was 7 at the time and now he's 11. Although he still wears the scarfs and hats I've made him; from time to time he'll ask me for a custom item. I wait for him to get to the "I'm too cool stage" to wear anything I make but he takes pride in my work and even sells some of my items for me or gets me orders from time to time. My baby sister just turned 6 and she's all about "sissy" making her anything and everything I can. LOL! Of course it has to be pink! She is big about letting her friends know that her "big sister" made them for her. LOL! Other than my family I tend to make some baby items, some children's and plenty of adult items. I make what I would hope to find out there if I couldn't make them myself."

Importance of the Team's Tag

Have you ever wondered why we use a team tag on Etsy? This blog entry will hopefully help to answer that question for you. If you click on the above bold face team tag you will be redirected to an Etsy search using that very tag. What you see after the page loads is the very reason why having and using the team tag is so important. By using the team tag to search for items in Etsy's search engine you'll find that all the results that show up in the search are unique items created by our very own team members.

Etsy defines team tags as, "...unique item tags designated by teams so that people can search Etsy directly for items made by people on a certain team." Our team tag is recognized as an official Etsy team tag because it contains the word "team" within it's name. One great benefit of being a member of this team is that you are afforded the right to use the team's tag on other websites besides Etsy to help promote and draw attention to your individual craft as well as the team as a whole.

In addition to using the team tag you are also encouraged to use one of the team logos/avatars in your crochet related listed item photos. This is a fast way to draw attention to the team because not every customer will read the tags you've used; some customers might not even be aware of the the team or even that Etsy provides a team program for it's users.

Here are the acceptable images approved for team member use for our logo/avatar recognition:

You can easily save these images to your computer by right clicking them and then clicking "save image as". They don't take up that much storage space on your computer and by saving them to a folder on your desktop you'll be able to easily upload them during a new listing.

Knitting (and Crochet) for Noggins Charity tips...

Have you managed to create a work of art to donate to our team's charity project this summer? If not, don't fret, the deadline is August 31st. There is still plenty of time to whip up something bright and fun for the kids. To help you along with your creations, here is a handy little chart I made with basic head measurements. Feel free to print this out and keep with your crochet pattern stash.

If you make hats to sell in your Etsy shop you might want to add a size chart to your item's photos to help your customers shop more conveniently. Maybe you've not yet made a hat, but are interested in learning the techniques. No matter your skill level this chart will surely come in handy at some point. In today’s world, creative imagination runs wild. Do you know the laws that are there to protect you and your creations? Last Sunday an article was published in my local newspaper that struck a cord with me. It addressed the importance of copyright specifically focusing with crafters.

In the article Etsy spokesman, Adam Brown, makes a remark about how Etsy sellers are affected by copyright infringement. Further more, the article gives advice on how to go about getting your works copyrighted and how doing so is really to your benefit.

Knitting for Noggins (Or Crochet)

 If you mail or bring hats to the hospital, please provide us with an accurate number of hats you are donating by completing a donor form. This helps us keep our hat count accurate (The donor form will be attached to the email separately with each month's newletter)

 Use your creativity, but bright and colorful hats are always great! And don't forget that we can use boy colors as well as girl colors.

 Our greatest need is for large hats for school-age kids, teens and adults. We ask that hats be approximately the size of an average cantaloupe or larger.

o Infant size – at least 16" in circumference

o Child size – at least 18" in circumference

o Teenager size – at least 21" in circumference

 Due to infection control, all needlework items must be made out of new materials (not recycled items). Handmade hats are preferred, and we ask that no logos be on the hats.

 We also ask that items be free of any odor or pet hair.

 For privacy reasons, please do not attach your name, your group’s name, or personal information to individual needlework donations.

 For safety purposes for our kids, please make sure that there are no safety pins and/or straight pins in the needlework donations that you send to us.

I’m Diane, and my shop name is “nnsideout.” When I was younger, my grandmother taught me how to knit. I would make little blankets for my dolls and stuffed animals. I haven’t actually knit anything since then, but decided to make a special gift, which meant I had to learn to crochet. I learned how to crochet from Teresa online, and have blossomed into this “artist” of sorts. And somehow I ended up here on Etsy with my own shop. As I have only been crocheting for about a year I believe my craft has grown quite a bit, as I have also began making hats, bags, and purses without any patterns at all.

Majoring in biochemistry, there isn’t a lot of room for creativity. Learning how to crochet, helped me release some of that creative energy. I really enjoy creating unique patterns and seeing how the items progress and what they turn into. Now that I have graduated I have a great deal of free time on my hands, and I plan to continue to expand my craft by creating other wearable and usable items for all to enjoy.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life kicked off at 6pm May 13th and there was a great turnout. The booths were to be decorated like different board games.

Our board game was Jumanji! We had three tables full of donations. All the details of the set up can be seen in the pictures.

Unfortunately part way into the night the weather took a turn for the worse so we were forced to pack up and leave early. So instead of staying out until 8am Saturday we were out by 1am. We did manage to raise some money in the time we were there. According to the Cancer Society people they will continue to accept donation for 2011 until August.

So I will be setting up a booth again next weekend May 21st, June 18th, and July 16th in hopes of picking up where we left off last night. So the items that did not sell will still have a chance. In August I'll be able to get a grand total of the funds raised for this year. So while it was sad not to have the event last the full length we are going to continue on. The important thing is the money we make to find a cure for cancer.

"During my first deployment to Iraq, I was inspired to take up crocheting as a hobby by several of my friends and fellow soldiers who had learned to knit. For us, it became a relaxing activity to help wind down from the stresses of non-stop operations that working in a combat zone entails. Whether I was alone in my room, or hanging out with the other girls, crocheting was something I always had to keep myself busy and avoid dwelling over the fact that we were far from home. Upon my return to the United States, I put crocheting on hold, but as another deployment loomed ahead, I was delighted to find a set of knitting needles in a care package my good friend sent. My passion for yarn was re-ignited, as I spent many hours reading knitting instruction books and looking at patterns. I decided to open my Etsy shop, 5280yarns, because I love knitting and crocheting, and wanted to share it with others. It also motivates and challenges me to start a new project or put my own twist on a pattern that I have found. The name of my shop comes from the fact that I was stationed in Colorado, which is famous for Denver's elevation of 5280 feet. Although I am originally from another state, I fell in love with the beautiful mountains of Colorado and am proud to be living and creating here, so I wanted to incorporate Colorado into my shop's name."

Here is her story:

Let's see, I opened my shop here on Etsy June of 2010. I've been selling crocheted items the entire time it's been open never anything else. Mind you I learned to crochet probably a week or two before I set up shop. Having a knitting background really helped me understand the fundamentals of crochet so it took off pretty quick. My first day learning how to crochet I whipped out a hat, granted it took me almost all day to figure out, but I sure get a lot of use out of it.

My brother was actually the one who told me about Etsy. I think a friend of his used to sell on here, or buy I can't recall which. I started out selling bracelets made out of acrylic yarn like the ones I donated. They must have sat in my shop for 3 months before I figured out that I was supposed to promote my items. I still feel so new to this whole selling thing sometimes.

So, I've gone from learning how to crochet many different patterns on a sampler afghan, which my mother and I made for my grandparents for Christmas, moved on to hats, bracelets, bookmark, phone pouches, water bottle holders, sweaters, and back to bracelets again. I love detail, which is probably why I switched off of yarn and tried out the crochet thread. I feel like I can do so much more with it in tiny detail.

The Celtic bracelets that I make now actually come from a knitted pattern. There aren't too many patterns for crocheted Celtic cables that I've seen; however, I probably haven't look too hard either. So, I went back to my old knitting book and studies the picture of the Celtic braid and thought to myself I could totally crochet that. I've always loved Celtic braids and knots, Celtic music, Celtic places, good gosh I'm obsessed with all things Celtic! Other than that I'm just a stay at home mom that does her best to make make her daughter's world as crazy and crafty as possible.

Relay for Life Charity Event

Title: Relay for Life
Details: This year I am going to be setting up a booth for Relay for Life. The idea is to raise money for cancer research. I am asking that you make an item(s) and mail it to me. All items are going to be sold at the event and any item that does not sell will be donated to Relay for Life. The event is taking place May 13th-14th.
When you donate an item please have the: a) size b) washing instructions c) material type (ex: cotton, acrylic etc) d) your shop name and any contact info you may want the person to have. You may also send your business cards or shop flyer with the item(s) so they can be passed out. Some people may want to visit your shop after the event. This is not only supporting a great cause but also doing a bit of free advertising for those who donate and for our team.
Speaking of teams; we are working with other teams on Etsy for this event. Crochet Dreamers is hosting the event but we are accepting items from others team as well. So far we have two other teams that will be participating with us. Prayers on a Wire Etsy Team and Crochet Originals Etsy Team. Both captains are members of our team and are extending the invitation to their teams. Already this is turning into a big event with three teams participating!
For those of you who decide to donate; I will also advertise your shop on our blog and facebook page as well as show the items that you have so generously donated towards the cause.

Courage for Kristi Charity Event Dec, Jan, Feb

Our next Charity event has officially begun! From December, January, and February we will be sponsoring http://www.etsy.com/shop/CourageForKristi .

The idea is to donate an item to sell in their shop.

The background story is that Kristi was a mom of three young girls. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away few MONTHS later in the summer of 2009. Her three young girls are NOW 18 months, 5 years and 7 years old. If you do the math the baby was less than 6 months old when her mom passed.

Normally her shop is open only for the month of October since it is breast cancer awareness month but she is keeping it opens at least long enough for us to help. Her college friend is the one who runs the shop and is trying to raise money for Kristi’s daughter’s college funds.

In order to donate an item just contact the shop and supply pictures and description of the item.

I hope you find this to be a good cause just as much as I have.

I want to thank AnythingCrochet for finding this shop for us to help.

To do list for Week 4:

1) Read this week's Boot Camp article: Etsy buyers expect more when they come to Etsy looking for gifts. You know that feeling of pride when you've found something special for a loved one? 2) Etsy Success Keyword Exercise: Create three lists of keywords. The first list will describe your buyer's attributes; if your buyer was the lead character in a play, what keywords would you attribute to that character? The second list should describe your style (have a peek at the Tag-O-Rama Etsy Blog Post for help with this one!). Your last list should describe your values as an artist and as a business owner. Feeling stuck? Have a closer look at the example exercise above.

3) Update Your Profile: I'm not going to butter this task up, it's a tough one. Get into that Etsy Profile and tell your story. You don't have to write a memoir, even a snippet from your daily life can be an interesting read. Make sure to have your Boot Camp buddy give you feedback and check for spelling errors!

Team Meeting in the Virtual Labs!

Many have requested to be able to learn or use the Virtual Labs. I have gotten approved for the Moon Room on October 4th at 6pm EST. Here is a direct link to the Virtual Labs: http://www.etsy.com/virtual_labs.php

The idea is to chat live with other members and for some to learn their way around the Virtual Labs. It should prove to be very exciting and I hope you can all make it.

This is a test run to see about the day and time frame for everyone. Hopefully we'll be able to do chats before long. One step at a time!

Another Team Grant

So I found out today that we were rewarded our last grant for the year (until Jan). I'm very excited about this. Since the last one I was able to get yarn for prizes with this one I want to branch out and get other supplies. I am only going to purchase from other Etsians and this is where I need your help!

No one likes to shop by themselves, especially me! We are a team and so since this is for ya'll I'd like to get your imput. The list below are things I'm looking into but some of you may find something that I may not! Help me shop!

Etsy has put together a "Holiday Boot camp" to help Etsian get prepared for some sales this winter!

The yarn for prizes have arrived and I'm loving all the cotton and other yarns! I'm sure there is something that everyone will like! Remember to enter the challenge to win a prize!

Just applied for another grant. This one is to be able to purchase only from other Etsians. Specialty hooks, stitch markers, crochet books, buttons, etc. Things that all help us as crocheters!

During the time don't worry about sales. Be sure to stock up your shop for winter! The weather is getting cooler and sales tend to boom for us during the winter months!

Update on Team Page

Just so everyone knows I've been submitting names to Etsy to get everyone added to the team page. For some reason I am getting no response. Even my huband is unable to add names to his team "prayersonawire". I know Etsy is currently going through beta testing for the new team formatting etc.

So for the time being if you do not see your name on the "Official Team Page" do not freak out. What counts is that your name is on the blog until Etsy Admin gets everything straightened out.
